For Valentine’s Day, I decided to hold a little get together with my friends. Though they all have boyfriends, luckily for me, they had already celebrated the holiday a couple days prior to the actual day. Totally smart, and awesome for single-me.
I wouldn’t actually say I’m a huge fan of Valentine’s Day, but I love the idea of anything that involves copious amounts of sweets, and hearts are pretty nifty as well.
I decided to make three things for the get together; sugar cookies, mini chocolate doughnuts, and adorably pink popcorn.
The cookies turned out SO WELL. I’ve never actually made royal icing, and frosted cookies, but after obsessively watching youtube videos on outlining and flooding cookies, I would consider myself an amateur/professional…if that makes any sense.
Here were the results (not too shabby!)
….and a couple of my favorites
Pink popcorn was more novelty than anything, as I wasn’t particularly happy with the color or texture. But oh well, you’ve got to make pink popcorn once in your life, and ruin your kitchen/pots in the process.
The chocolate doughnuts were by far my favorite thing. I honestly don’t know how many I ate, and frankly, I don’t want to know. The doughnut itself wasn’t that sweet, almost having a salty chocolate flavor. The pinkish peachy glaze was actually flavored with orange juice, which gave it a delectably sweet contrast to the doughnuts. I decided to up the cute factor, by adding heart royal icing transfers I had made the night before.
All in all, it was a great Valentine’s Day, and I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to spend it with.
